In my stocking

Posted on December 29th, 2011

Justin and I never give each other holiday gifts. We find it too stressful to find “that perfect thing” for each other, and we would rather give each other presents on random days throughout the year. But this year, I was unpacking our Christmas lights and found our stockings – so we hung them up and decided to fill them with random small things. I filled his with a peanut patty, a magnet, and a package of cotton candy. He filled mine with a jar of used matchbooks, food erasers, and our hide-a-bat*. It’s so lovely to be known so well – to be loved by someone who knows all the reasons why a jar of used matchbooks would make me so happy. *Hide-a-bat…

More things from NYC

Aside from all our souvenirs, we brought back this song, which we heard at Dram Bar… And this cocktail recipe, also from Dram Bar. Happy happy! The Greenpoint (created at Milk & Honey, but served to us at Dram Bar) 2 ounces rye whiskey 1/2 ounce yellow Chartreuse 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth 1 dash Angostura bitters 1 dash orange bitters Stir with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with good maraschino cherries, or a lemon zest twist. Makes 1 cocktail.

NYC Loot

I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday! We brought a LOT of stuff back from NYC. I wanted to keep track of it somehow – but I’m still missing a few things! I know Justin bought a couple of books, and some shoes, and… probably other things. Of course I had to get a ceramic coffee cup after seeing the paper versions everywhere. I’ve been wanting one of these for a while, actually – F&D serves their coffee in these (not ceramic), and I love them. I also found some teacups that were just too cute not to bring home. A visit to Kinokuniya resulted in this Japanese goodness. (Six Oishinbos! Now I’m just missing the Vegetables book. So excited.) A stop…
