Monday things
It’s been a busy week for me (but not for Roux). My book signing/sale at the downtown farmers’ market went swimmingly – afterward I was completely pooped out, and my cheeks were sore from smiling so much! I’ve been reading An Everlasting Meal (still), the latest Lucky Peach, my copy of the first issue of Kinfolk, […]

Journaling
I keep lots of journals. My favorites are my visual journals, which I fill with images, thoughts, poems, etc. from magazines, websites, cards, and whatever ephemera I can get my hands on. Here’s a peek at my most recent journal: It’s fun to look back on these and remember why I clipped a certain photo […]

Things I made today
We covered our little IKEA table with this lovely oilcloth! I love it so much – it’s pretty and different and easy to clean. I also cooked up some Brussels sprouts… I basically made this recipe, and tossed it with pasta. Holy smokes, it was good. And it looked so lovely on our table! 🙂

Mail!
Hooray for swaps! My far-away friend Laura and I decided to do a handmade cookbook swap, with a few of our favorite recipes inside. She sent me the package above…just look at all that beautiful paper! I tried very hard not to tear it as I was unwrapping, because it is just so gorgeous. Laura’s […]

Meet Mela
Sorry for the lack of posts in the past few days…what can I say? Sometimes I flake out. This is my first softie, which I made using a pattern from my new Japanese craft book. I love the idea of making softies, and once I made her I just kept gazing at her and hugging […]

Apron and Kitchen Swap
Vidya and I had another swap this month, and we decided on two aprons and a kitchen item. I had fun crafting her gifts: I FINALLY finished knitting the dishcloth. It took me forever, probably because it wasn’t a straight knit, it was a mix of knit and purl, which to me (a beginner) is […]

Swap!
Yesterday I received my swap goodies from Vidya, a web-pal that happens to live a few blocks from me. We decided to swap a few crafty things, and I got the cutest stuff! She made me a softie, (I named her Olivia), a velvet rabbit with lopsided legs and a flower in her hair. The […]

A rug for Roux
At some point a few months ago, I decided it would be fun to make my own rug for our new bathroom. I had clipped out an article from a Martha Stewart magazine that explained how to make a braided rug using strips of old bath towels. I set to work cutting three towels into […]
