Things & Stuff

  • Letters #8

    Dear Husband,

Sometimes when you sneeze, you add a little sound in there, so that instead of “Achoo!” you end up saying “Bachoo!”, and it always makes me laugh. I like how you make even the most mundane things so much fun.

    Dear Hair,

I had decided to grow you out, so we stayed away from the salon. Then I saw this girl at the coffee shop with amazing short hair, and then I saw her AGAIN at the cafe. Is this a sign? I’m just not sure. Let’s talk about it.

    Dear Sister,

I had so much fun with you this week! Thank you for a lovely lunch, and a wonderful chat, and for saying all the right things, and for being you. I love you bunches.

    Dear Public Library,

Thank you for having so many books on whatever subject I happen to be interested in. Whenever I visit you, I come home with a bag full of books – sometimes about vegetable cookery, sometimes about simple living, sometimes about paper crafts, sometimes poetry or young adult fiction. I feel like I’ve found buried treasure every time I visit.

    Dear Person Who Invented Air-Conditioning,

    I. Love. You.

    Happy Thursday, everyone!

  • snacks on my desk

    Goldfish crackers and vinho verde.

A box of chocolate from Justin.

I feel a little embarrassed of how much I love my little desk. 🙂

  • veggies for dinner

I was determined to use up some veggies. I steamed some corn, and fried some okra. I toasted bread and topped it with tomatoes, leftover cabbage and white beans, and a fried egg.

I can’t explain how much more fun it is to cook when I have more time. And summer produce! It’s so inspiring.

Tomorrow I get to hang out with my sister, who is in Austin for a day or two. I think we’ll start with coffee and croissants at La Boite, then hair fun at Vain, then maybe a late lunch somewhere. Suddenly when I have a visitor, I can’t figure out what to do! Maybe show her the Domain? Tea and scones at the Steeping Room? A visit to Book People or Domy? Drinks on the patio at FINO or La Condesa? An afternoon cupcake tour? Early evening snacks at East Side Show Room? I love how this all centers around food. 🙂

Hope you’re all having a great Monday.

  • Sunday 6/12

Sunday started with a cappuccino at Houndstooth with my friend N.

For brunch I made blueberry pancakes, and Justin made bacon. I had a pomegranate soda (just pomegranate juice and seltzer).

Roux slept in his basket for a while.

I went to my friends’ house for their daughter’s first birthday party. They were cooking up a storm.

    A. sliced up fajitas (chicken, beef and veggie).

I had a little bit of everything.

    Eliot slept.

And then it was back home for more coffee-bag making and blogging.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

  • Saturday 6/11

Today I documented my day in photos. I started the day with a trip to the SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley.

I did not get a cappucello, but I did get an iced mocha. Yay Casa Brasil! (Aren’t those bags lovely? ;))

I brought home these goodies. Roux wanted an okra (see his little paw?)

I had canned soup, and Justin had iced coffee; he told me all about the documentaries he watched in the wee hours last night while I slept.

    Roux thought about it.

    Little meowed about it.

I played Patsy Cline on the record player.

And I printed wrapping paper and wrapped presents. Tomorrow is Astrid’s first birthday party.

I needed a snack, so I had Cheerios with blueberries and soymilk.

I cut my leg somehow. I have no idea how, I just found it cut and bloody, so I cleaned it and added a Hello Kitty bandage (which makes everything better).

Dinner prep required a beverage: this is a gin rickey.

    I chopped potatoes.

And blistered shishito peppers from the farmers’ market.

We had cabbage with white beans, plus blistered shishitos, ripe tomatoes with salt and pepper, and a blueberry smash (blueberries, lime, simple syrup, gin and seltzer).

    Roux was cute.

Evening called for a glass of bubbly.

And we got to work making Casa Brasil bags.

    Happy Saturday, everyone!
