    Dear Husband,

Sometimes I watch you sleep and try to memorize every freckle. Sometimes when I hear your scooter pulling up to the house, I get kind of giggly and tell the kitties, “He’s here!!” Sometimes when I’m in your arms the rest of the world and all of its worries disappear. Sometimes you make me laugh so hard I do the Crazy Laugh. Sometimes I forget to tell you that you’re the most amazing person I’ve ever known.

    Dear Mosquitos,

I hate you. Did all of you have to bite my legs 34 times on one day? Rude.

    Dear Kate,

Thank you so much for including me in your New-Orleans-Bachelorette-Crazy-Funtimes. It was so much fun to wander the streets with you and your gal pals, sip on daiquiris and hurricanes, sing at the top of my lungs at a piano bar, collapse on the stairs with you in the middle of the night and lament that no one delivers pizza at 3am, and celebrate your waning single days in style. #franinthebayou

    Dear Cereal,

I totally forgot about you! Today Justin and I talked about the cereals we loved as kids, and I’ve decided to have you for breakfast every day. Tomorrow it’s Honeycomb. Next week, Lucky Charms. Huzzah!

    Dear F&D Chefs,

You guys are the coolest. Spending my days across the counter from you, tasting your creations, laughing at your jokes, listening to your crazy stories, smelling bacon and blondies and basil and brioche, is too much fun. Thanks for making my daily job so great.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!♥

I’m behind on sharing my iPhone photos! Here are a few:

One of my coworkers went to Ikea and brought back these crackers and a tube of smoked roe. We all dutifully tasted it and all wished we hadn’t.

Guys. This is my new favorite thing. My friend Nat brought a Kinder Happy Hippo for me, Rachel & Erin one day, and I think it’s the best candy in the WORLD.

I loved this snippet from Bon Appetit. Can’t you just feel that autumn chill and taste that lovely lobster?

I got rid of all of these nail polishes. Some of them were super old. Like, years and years. But I kept them because MAYBE! I’ll USE them! SOMEDAY!

Rachel & I went had a quick lunch at Papalote. Everything was great – though super spicy for me. I think Justin would love it.

Roux loves popsicles, because sometimes when we finish them, we let him lick the sticks. But then he hovers like this hoping for a lick.

He’s just patiently waiting for mine.

Erin read my star+gate cards. It was super eerie, because everything made sense! That damned serpent. Now I want a deck of my own.

She also gave us these cute little birdcages! We hung them all up in front of our window and filled them with air plants and little monitos (toys/figurines). I love them! Air plants don’t die easily, right? 🙂

One night we ate dinner at Elizabeth Street Cafe, and the next morning we had leftovers for breakfast. It was kind of perfect – baguette dipped in curry, Vietnamese iced coffee, and a kouign amann. It was not a great version of the pastry, but it made me reallllly want to go back to Portland and have the one at little t.

This is why I sometimes can’t make the bed.

This week is Texas Tiki Week! We managed to get these lovely drinks at the Tigress just before the crowds descended and all hell broke loose. Everybody loves tiki!

This weekend I’m headed to New Orleans for a bachelorette party! It’s my first solo trip, my first girls’ weekend, my first bachelorette weekend. I might be seriously hungover when I get back on Sunday night. But hopefully I’ll have lots of photos and maybe a video!♥

Last night I cooked dinner for the first time in forever. It was lovely to be back in the kitchen with my trusty sous chef, a gin cocktail, and great music. We really loved these Vietnamese pork chops, and the Shirazi salad was so fresh and fantastic. Yay summer!

It’s been a long time since I’ve cooked meat at home, but after these perfect pork chops, I think I’ll be doing it more often.

I also forgot to post a link to this little video I was in.

I can’t believe my hair was so purple! It’s now super pink:

    Anyway, I hope you’re all having a great week!♥

This week our Chef de Cuisine, Anthony, left us to go back to his hometown of NYC. I miss him already. Incidentally, this is what happens when you take one too many photos of a chef at work.

One benefit of working in a restaurant is this: every now and then (rarely, unfortunately), there is a deformed biscuit, which you can then eat with a slather of honey butter and coffee. Yum.

On Monday we cheered on one of our chefs, Brandon, at the Citywide 86’d Competition. Though he didn’t win the final, we’re so proud of him!

Logan and Rachel came over and made us ceviche. They rock.

Another benefit of working with the most awesome restaurant ever: Bake Sale goodies! Toasted chocolate croissants are the bomb.

A text conversation with Justin about Roux:

One day I cooked up some squash and eggs and toast and tomatoes, and it was the best thing ever.

We finally remembered to go back to El Alma, the home of one of my favorite margaritas, the Chilanga!

On Anthony’s last day, he made us homemade pasta with meatballs and red gravy. I can’t even begin to describe the deliciousness of this meal.

Tonight Paul and Deana invited us to eat at qui, which was fantastic! I love how playful the food is, how great the cocktails are, how gorgeous the space is. We’re ready to go back.

And what would a blog post be without at least one photo of our cat being cute? We do love Roux.♥

  • Hooray!

Errbody! I was so excited today to see this lovely review of my second book in the Austin Chronicle food issue! I didn’t even know it would be featured, and there it is just makin’ me proud. I was giddy and giggly for quite some time this morning.

I have lots of other news, I’m sure, but at the moment all I can think about is laying on the couch and zoning out. More news soon! In the meantime, enjoy these beautiful places.♥
