  • Tasting Austin: Primizie

Did I mention that we live on the east side now? It has its ups and downs, its scary parts and cool parts. For example, just this morning I walked downstairs and got a fabulous haircut at Kemestry Salon, and there are other great places I’ll have to tell you about, like Domy Books and the Peacock Lounge.

One of my favorite places on the east side is Primizie.

This cute little spot serves really, really good Italian food. We’re not talking spaghetti and meatballs, here, either.

They serve things like bruschetta with goat cheese, arugula and roasted beets.

    And roasted tomato soup.

And specials made with local meats and produce, and super-fresh seafood from the Gulf of Mexico, like this brodetto.

Not to mention delicious entrees, pastas (try the fresh fettucine alfredo), and pizzas, like this chicken, pancetta and avocado one.

You can choose from their display case of Italian baked goodies, or stick with something like semifreddo.

I could seriously eat here several times a week. I’m loving their new local menu, and they’ve got great cocktails and wines as well.

Come on over to the east side! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you’ll find.

  • Tailgating

This weekend we finally tailgated! We’ve lived here forever, but somehow have never done this. We had a keg (of course), bloody marys and screwdrivers, plus lots of food. Also important: cornhole (it’s like a bean bag toss…apparently it’s a northern thing) and hula hooping.

Bryan had a great time, of course…

And Laura looked super cute in her UT attire. Jason’s cool as usual.

It was fun, but it was just way too hot, so we didn’t stay long. Now at least we can say we’ve tailgated. 🙂

  • More bananas and chocolate

This seems to be a theme on this blog…old bananas and chocolate chips. They just go so well together! Here’s another quick and delicious way to get rid of those spotty bananas.

So I’ve been hard at work, adding photos and categories to old posts, but it’s very time-consuming. I’m hoping to finish that within a week or so, then move on to updating the recipe index. I’m so excited to have all these old posts back! It’s fun to see how much I’ve changed, or haven’t changed, in the past 3 years.

    Cookie time.

    Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

    • 1/3 cup butter, softened
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 cup mashed ripe banana
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 cup (6 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips

In a small mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, banana and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.

Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto baking sheets coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350 degrees F for 9 – 11 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.

    Makes 3 dozen cookies.

  • Hooray, hooray!

Last fall, when I decided not to blog anymore (silly me), we switched servers at home, and were unable to get back all those posts from the past. So when I started blogging again this year, my little blog looked new, with no previous posts. This was very sad to me, because this blog is like my diary, and I missed having access to those old posts.

Well, my lovely husband worked his tail off to figure out the coding and all that technical mumbo jumbo, and voila! The old posts are back! I am SOOOO excited about this. At the moment, there are a few major differences that I can see:

    1. Some of the posts are missing their photos. I plan to go back and re-attach those.

    2. The posts have been re-numbered, which means any of your old links to recipes will probably not link to the correct post.

    3. The recipe index is NOT working yet, as the links are all mis-numbered. I plan to re-work that and get it working for you (and me) soon.

    4. The posts aren’t categorized yet. Again, I’ll work on that.

So hooray, hooray, for husbands who slave away on their wives’ blogs. 🙂 Thank you, my love.

  • Etsy Love: Clementine

I swear, I wear these necklaces from Clementine ALL THE TIME. I lerve them.

This one is my favorite…it’s such a cool idea, and it hangs so nicely.

And this one…so delicate and sweet! I have a thing for peridot, I think.

I’m also loving these earrings and this awesome necklace. Seriously, folks. Is there anything better than Etsy?
