Things & Stuff

  • Just a few favorites

Hola everybody! Any big plans for the (American) holiday weekend? Here’s what I’ve got going so far:

    • Meeting my friend Linds at Apothecary tonight for drinks while Justin meets up with some guy friends for dinner/drinks
    • Maybe the farmer’s market tomorrow morning
    • Dinner party at a friend’s house Saturday night (With Rachel & Logan! I can’t WAIT to see them.)
    • Dinner at Uchiko with Rachel & Logan on Sunday (I’m sooooooooo excited to go back!)

In between, there will definitely be some laundry-washing, some nap-taking, and maybe some movie-watching. (On the to-see list: A-Team, Toy Story 3D, Last Airbender and Eclipse again)

I’m thinking of videoing the weekend with my little Zumi, and posting it here afterward. We’ll see if that works out. 🙂

So here are some favorites of the photos we took in west Texas last weekend:

    A polaroid of the pre-thunderstorm sky…

The happy newlyweds and my super-cute grandmas…

Pinning on my sister’s corsage (my sister is so beautiful)…

The wall of a lodge (Elks? Moose? Lions Club? Who knows.) (Edited to add: My pal Amy says it’s probably a Masonic Lodge. Yay for smart friends!)

Main Street and the thunderstorm rolling in (I have no idea why west Texas towns have such wide roads)…

There are pump jacks in the middle of town. Literally, in people’s backyards…

And the best part of west Texas? Being there with this guy. (He’s so freakin’ gorgeous. The skin! The hair! The lips! Sigh.)

Have a great weekend everyone, and happy Independence Day!

  • The light leak.

So my Polaroid has a light leak. It’s killin’ me, Smalls. It started out as “this lovely quirk,” but has quickly become “that stupid light spot.” I have no idea how to stop it… I’m guessing I should peek inside the camera once this package of film is used up, but I really don’t know what I’m looking for. Just one more reason I need a vintage Polaroid sx-70 or an Instax… 🙂

These were all taken on our recent trip to west Texas.

  • July Tunes

I’ve made a new music mix for July. You can get to it using the “my tunes” button on the right, or by clicking here. (Can you tell that I love Vampire Weekend? And the Eclipse soundtrack? Yeah, well.) Happy listening!

  • A new camera! And my first movie!

So we bought a new camera. No, it’s not the Fuji Instax (though that’s probably next)… it’s this super-cute, teensy tiny digital Harinezumi 2. (Did I mention how much I love Photojojo?)

It shoots lovely vintagey, grainy video and lo-fi stills in color or black and white. You can shoot in the macro mode, and it makes everything all blurry-delicious.

    A few stills:

We took it with us to dinner at Cipollina, and then I pored over iMovie instructions until I figured out how to edit it into one lovely little film. So here it is!  Please be kind, I’ve never used iMovie before! 🙂

  • Pinterest!

So I’ve started yet another project… I’ve been collecting images forever, and I sometimes share them on my twinkle lights blog, but mostly they just go into my Evernote. Now I’m saving them to Pinterest, which is a super-cool site that allows you to pin images from all over the web, categorize them, tag them, and share them. You can comment on other people’s pins, or repin their images. It’s like tumblr, but much prettier/easier/better. 🙂

My favorite of my boards so far is my Life to-do list. I’ve created little reminders of things I want to do in life. Things like creating handwritten cookbook of my favorite recipes, or drinking Turkish coffee in Turkey, or always keeping my head up. 🙂

I do have five invitations to Pinterest that I can share… if you’re interested in saving/sharing your images in this way, leave me a comment (include your email), and I’ll send an invite over.

I have to say that I do still use Evernote extensively… it’s more of my idea/recipe/note filing system, and I’m using Pinterest as a mood/inspiration board. You can never have too many toys, right? 🙂
