Things & Stuff

  • What I Wore: Thursday

    • Shirt: Gap
    • Skirt: Anna Sui (Moss)
    • Shoes: Very Volatile (Stella Says Go)
    • Necklace: from a friend’s jewelry party – I can’t remember the brand

We took this photo in the bright afternoon sun, in front of F&D. (Note to self: no photos in the bright afternoon sun.) Also, I need to learn to stand up straight (Mom, I still haven’t learned). I’m just not comfortable in front of the camera! And I’m not familiar with the many street-style poses that come so natural to some. I’m good at “woman lugging purse and sweater and coffee and heavy bag of cameras to car” and “woman washing dishes” and “woman embarrassed to be having her photo taken.”

Anyway, I love this skirt – it’s my Minnie Mouse skirt. Today I spilled coffee on it. Everyone please say a prayer that it comes out, because I would be devastated if it didn’t.

  • What I Wore: Wednesday

    • Shirt: Gap
    • Skirt: thrifted
    • Belt: Banana Republic
    • Purse: Nine West (Ross)
    • Shoes: Bandolino (DSW)
    • Necklace: Nordstrom

I’m considering doing a 30-day What I Wore challenge. It will really be a challenge, though, because it means I have to corral Justin into taking my photo at some point during the day (he’s not up when I leave for work in the morning, and I’ve usually changed out of work clothes by the time he’s home at night). Or, I can just learn how to use the timer on my camera. We’ll see… I’m not sure if it would be very interesting. Plus I’m not very comfortable in front of the camera.

Last night we watched Bill Cunningham New York – it was fantastic. I already loved Bill Cunningham, but now I love him even more. And I have a better appreciation for street style photography and fashion in general. Little known (well known?) secret – I loooooove fashion. I truly appreciate it – I’m just not good at practicing it. It’s too easy to wear pajamas all weekend. Also, I’m not big on wearing jewelry – so my outfits tend to be pretty plain. 🙂

  • Sunday

    Breakfast: coffee.

Lunch: waffles with bananas and mashed berries, Gruyere omelet. Justin made the waffles, I made the omelet. We work well together. 🙂

Dinner: pasta with marinara and cheese.

Evening snack: the last of the Raisin Bran. It was mostly crumbs.

Late night snack: my favorite cookie. I always twist it open, and eat the top first, then the bottom with the filling.

We really need to get groceries. I’m feeling overwhelmed about it, because there are so many things I feel like cooking. I suppose that’s a good problem to have, though.

    Dear Husband,

I love how peaceful you look when you sleep. I love that you wake me up from nightmares and hold my hand the rest of the night so I won’t be scared. I love how you laugh at my nerdy jokes. I love how you love The West Wing. I love that you are always game for pretty much any food or activity I suggest. I love that you bought us two tickets to see Bill Cunningham New York on Tuesday. I love that you listen to me read passages from MFK Fisher to you. I love that you love me.

    Dear Dad,

Happy birthday! I hope you had fun buying pieces of car at the swap meet. I hope you have some birthday cake, or maybe a DQ Blizzard (Oreo, of course). I hope you can feel the long distance hug I’m sending you.

    Dear Tyson Cole,

Your last post was wonderful. I can’t wait to dine with you in 2030 at your 15-seater. Omakase.

Dear Improv Show and Cocktails at The Tigress Pub,

You were so much fun! I was worried about participating in front of everyone, but it turned out to be fun. Also, the cocktails were perfection, and seeing old friends and new friends was worth the performance anxiety. Thanks!

    Dear Thrift Stores,

Thank you for providing things like purple skirts and Randy Travis records and tiny green coffee cups, and even a glass-and-metal cup sort of like the one that Julie Delpy drinks her citron pressé from in Before Sunset. You are a treasure trove.

    Happy Sunday, everyone!

  • Brunch at Foreign & Domestic

If I haven’t told you already, I adore Foreign & Domestic. They recently opened for brunch on Sundays, and pretty much every Sunday since then, I’ve asked Justin if we could go. We finally went last week, and it’s going to take heavy chains and a large scary dog to keep me away from there every Sunday from now on.

I took my Yashica with me, and I was so pleased with how the food looked on film. It doesn’t hurt that the lighting is perfect in there, and the food is gorgeous. 🙂

    Justin designed the menu:

Soup can pumpkin bread with butter, coffee (they use Casa Brasil coffee, and it ROCKS):

Salted radishes, butter, toast and basil pesto:

    Tofu and endive salad:

Cincinnati-style tripe chili with spaghetti pie, cheddar and fried egg:

Vegetable scramble with kale and turnips:

And we also took home a slice each of Jodi’s pies: chocolate cream, coconut cream, and banoffee, which were all fantastic. I highly urge you all to try F&D for brunch, but please leave two seats at the counter for me and Justin. 🙂
