  • Ambrosia

People. Do you like veggies? Do you like cute? Do you like yum? Go to Ambrosia (facebook page here). I live mere blocks away from this place and I had never been there before… tragedy! A friend and I went for lunch this week, and I fell in love with it.

Everything is vegan, raw, mostly organic, mostly local. (Later in the winter they may do a few cooked vegan dishes.) Everything is made fresh, and when we went, there was only one cook, so it took a little while for our food to be made. But I’m perfectly okay with that, if it’s being made fresh.

The place itself is super cute. Pretty light fixtures…

    Pretty tables…

Pretty food. This was my signature kale salad… kale, hemp seed, avocado and tomato with a super-tart vinaigrette. It was a plate full of crunchy-fresh-tasty-goodness.

This was my friend’s Thai noodle bowl – zucchini “noodles” with a creamy coconut-ginger sauce, veggies and chile oil. She let me taste it, and it was fantabulous.

We both had watermelon-basil aguas frescas, which, of course, rocked. They were blended fresh when we ordered them.

And we had to have dessert – chocolate coconut macaroons. Mmmm.

Here’s the basic menu (though there is also a specials board that changes frequently):

I can’t wait to try the lasagna, made with zucchini noodles, and the crepes. And the pizza. And what was really cool was that after we ate, I wanted to go for a walk. I wanted to keep eating veggies. I wanted to take care of my body. But then it was dinnertime and I ate pork belly and osso bucco. Such is life. 😉

  • Happy Autumn!

Me on Lake Champlain, Vermont – Fall 2007

Everybody! We made it to fall! I’m so freakin’ excited. I really, really, REALLY want to travel somewhere to see the leaves again – but I don’t know if that’s going to happen this year. It makes my heart sad, because fall is my favorite season. I love everything about fall. I love pumpkins and spice and tights and boots and scarves and leaves and Halloween and the Austin Film Festival and soups and casseroles and baking and rain and cinnamon and sweet potatoes and hats. Love. It.

Also! Today’s my mama’s birthday. Everybody say HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAMA! 🙂

So I’m including a list, because then that means I’ve covered Self-Portrait Tuesday AND the Wednesday List. I’m so efficient!

Five Six recipes I’m TOTALLY making again this fall:

    • Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Squares
    • Pumpkin Cake with Honey Frosting
    • Pumpkin and Black Bean Soup (Justin’s favorite)
    • Hominy, Tomato and Chile Soup
    • Easy Meatless Manicotti
    • Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

(Did I mention that I love pumpkin?) Hooray, fall!

  • Music Monday

Hi everybody. Looks like that horrible rogue “malware” script is wreaking havoc on my blog again. I hope that it will be all cleared up very soon. In the meantime, here are some tunes.

I’m feeling kind of sad today, so this is what’s in my head.

    Devotchka – How It Ends

    JBM – Cleo’s Song

    The Middle East – Blood

  • Sunday, Sunday

How is it already Sunday evening? I spent most of our weekend holed up at home, writing. We stopped to order pizza from Spartan Pizza, and drove way the heck down south to pick it up. It was worth the drive! The Agamemnon was our favorite – cilantro pesto, chicken tossed with Salt Lick barbecue sauce, red onion, and pickled jalapenos. We also tried the Hades – tomato sauce (very heavy on the oregano), Italian sausage, green olives, herbed ricotta, and red pepper flakes. Neither of these pizzas are what I would usually order, as I often avoid olives and jalapenos, but they sounded good, and I’m so glad we tried them, because they were AWESOME. And then I tossed the empty pizza box on the deck, because I’m trashy like that.

This evening I took a break from writing to play with my blog. I made some new buttons over on the right, using awesome free art from Pugly Pixel. Yay for new buttons!

I don’t have much else to say, and in fact, I’m quite tired of the computer, so I’m off to read magazines and search for chocolate. Have a good week, internets!

  • Thankful Thursday

      • Some kind of watermelon-brandy cocktail

So! Today I am thankful for:

    • Friends who are friends no matter what, even after babies, even after long periods of not seeing each other, even after everything
    • Espresso
    • A talented, creative husband who inspires me to feed my own creativity
    • Warm chocolate chip cookies
    • Cool autumn weather (85 degrees is cool in Austin!)
    • Sleep
    • My kitty cats
    • My brain
    • My iPad
    • My home

    Happy Thursday, everyone!
