Projects!

*I got a Fuji Instax! And fake mustaches! Yay!

Okay, so we all know how much I like starting projects. I always think about doing a project a month, or maybe a year-long project, or… well, I like the idea of projects.

You may remember my recent revelation that although I like starting projects, I don’t necessarily finish many of them, and that’s okay. My definition of “finishing” is not the same as other people’s. I tend to get bored pretty quickly. But for some reason (maybe because the New Year is fast approaching), I’m considering new projects.

I just saw this little book over on swissmiss, and it’s making me think about projects I’d like to start. Here are a few ideas:

  • Be debt-free by the end of 2011 (this is something I should do anyway)
  • Finish my 5-level Rosetta Stone French course by the end of 2011
  • Create a project-a-month and share it on the blog (maybe focus on certain types of recipes, or photography, or writing)
  • Cook every recipe in one cookbook
  • Eat at home (no restaurants!) for a certain period of time
  • Take a photo a day
  • Photograph everything I eat
  • Take daily self-portraits
  • Create a video series – maybe documenting each weekend, or cooking experiences
  • Work on one skill – knitting, or crochet, or embroidery, or photography
  • Learn something completely new (like playing the violin!)
  • Read a book a week
  • Post on the blog every day for a certain period of time

I’m liking the idea of monthly projects – my friend Connie did this recently, and it was fun to see how her life focused on different things each month (all moving toward one goal of living greener).

So many ideas! And I’d like to have it figured out by January 1, so I can have a fresh start at it. What do you think? Anyone starting any new projects? Anything you’d love to read about here? Projects!

(I should have prefaced this post by stating that I am currently highly caffeinated from a very delicious Apollo cappuccino from Houndstooth. Caffeine! Projects!! Yay!!!)

  1. I haven’t had a chance to comment in forever! I have missed reading your blog!

I know I’ve said it a million times, but it freaks me out sometimes how we’re so alike! I have wanted to do so many of those things too…probably like half your list!

    1. Well let me know if you decide to do any of these – I’m sure it would be easier if we each had a partner in crime! 🙂

      1. This is stuff I’ve thought about:

-Be debt-free (we need to do this too and it’s one of our goals this year)
-Rosetta Stone French (I took 4 yrs of French in high school and remember a good deal, but I’d like to strengthen it…but $600 for the full package seems so expensive!)
-We have a bunch of cooking projects that we want to do…like cooking a full meal from each cookbook we have (sadly, we have so many that we haven’t actually cooked from!)…plus we want to try making like all of the “classics” or whatever you want to call them…things like croissants, classic desserts, corn tortillas, etc.
-Photo a day (I’ve thought about this too. One of my friends Michael did a 365 like that that was pretty neat. Highly considering this!)
-Video series (I’ve wanted to get a small camera and do things like this too but never have)
-Work on one skill – knitting, or crochet, or embroidery, or photography (I know how to knit scarves and that’s it, but I just bought a book to improve my knitting and want to try next projects)
Learn something completely new (like playing the violin!) (I’ve always wanted to learn violin too! But honestly I feel like I don’t have the time to put into it)

        Then other ones I have:
-Exercise at least three times per week, preferably five/week.
-Journal everything I eat to keep track of what I’m consuming/to eat more consciously/because it’s fun to look back on
-Geocache more (if you’ve never heard of that, it’s like hiking/scavenger hunting sort of…)
        -Play tennis more

So much to do! I’m sure I’ll do various ones in phases…I too start something, get bored, and then find something new.

      2. We’re so weirdly alike. 🙂

I’m liking all of these projects – and I’m leaning toward a project-a-month, so that I don’t have to stick to one thing forever. I only have a few days left to decide on January’s project – eep!
