Tidbits

So I’ve been under the weather (again) the past few days…just general weak and achy and fatigued. It seems to be disappearing, though, which I am happy about, because staying at home is B-O-R-I-N-G.

I have learned a lot from my lovely television, though…did you know that Rachael Ray has a talk show? Does that woman ever stop? I only watched a few minutes of it before I got bored. Today I watched a Heights, which turned out to be a really great movie. All the action takes place in one day, and the storylines are really engaging. If it weren’t for movie channels (thanks, my lovely landlords!), there would seriously be nothing to watch during the day. Except Everyday Italian. And Passport to Europe. At night, though, great shows are all over the place, especially on the Travel Channel or PBS or the Discover Channel. Justin and I have been discovering Brazil and Beirut and learning about primordial dwarfism and earthquakes. Perhaps it’s time to step away from the TV.

I’ve also started a new project (Yes! Another project I may not finish!), inspired by Photojojo. (That website is wonderful, by the way.) I’ve started my own Project 365, in which I take a photo every day, as a way to visually chronicle my life. I suppose that my blog, computer journal, and numerous handwritten journals just aren’t enough. ๐Ÿ™‚ You can take a peek periodically using the link on the right under Sweet Sites. You can choose to view them as a slideshow, or if you want to read the captions, click through each individually.

Finally, I made these roasted chickpeas for a get-together last week, and they went over really well. They basically become more chewy, a bit drier, and roasty-toasty-good.

Roasted Chickpeas

  • 2 cans chickpeas, drained
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and other spices to taste

Preheat oven to 425ร‹ลกF. Toss chickpeas with olive oil and spread out in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt and whatever spices you might like (smoked paprika, chili powder, cumin…). Bake for 20 minutes, stirring halfway through.

Makes about 4 cups.

  1. Mmmm….these were absolutely addictive!

  2. I used to just LOVE Rachel Ray but overexposure has cured me of that. Now I like to see her when I channel surf (’cause she’s so cute!) but I’m glad the mute button is on. LOL

I can’t say I have ever liked Everyday Italian. That woman is very interesting in interviews and such but I just can’t stand the way she does her show. To me she just comes off as so fake. I don’t know why I feel that way, but it’s a strong visceral reaction.

  3. I love roasted chickpeas. They are also really great with a bit of cumin added to them.
    Hope you feel better!

  4. Hey Crystal! Love the pics you’ve taken so far in your project 365. Thanks for your kind words about Photojojo! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. wow, sounds like a yummy snack!

  6. Utenzi, I agree about the over-exposure of RR…and I have the opposite reaction to Everyday Italian! It’s not so much Giada herself, but the beautiful photography and relaxed attitude of the show that I love so much. Adrienne, thanks for the well wishes! I’m feeling much better. And Amit, I’m so glad you commented…I look forward to my Photojojo emails!
