[Note: If you haven’t seen the movie, or read the books, STOP! Spoilers below…]
Sigh. Swoon. Collapse in a puddle of happiness.
So I’ve been completely consumed by the Twilight series of books, and tonight I was lucky enough to attend the premiere, the second screening EVER of the film, with the director in attendance for Q&A.
What can I say? If you’re into the books, you’ll probably love the movie. If you haven’t read the books, I think the romance might seem rushed, or you might think it’s cheesy. But that would just be because you DON’T UNDERSTAND!! The passion! The romance! The danger! The true love!
My favorite parts? Definitely their first kiss. Holy cannoli. And Edward sucking the venom out of Bella’s bite…AAAAHHH!! So tense! It was somehow sexual and passionate and there was a tiny part of you that didn’t want him to stop. To just keep on feeding on her lovely blood until he was finally completely satisfied. (Seriously? Did I just say that?) It was kind of like that episode of Buffy when Angel bites her, and doesn’t think he’ll be able to stop…
I love that Stephenie Meyer has a cameo in it. I love, love, love the music (I’ve been rockin’ the soundtrack nonstop since I bought it on itunes a few days ago, and tonight I added “15 Steps” by Radiohead, which was in the movie but was NOT on the soundtrack, ahem…). I love the way the vampire family is introduced, that first day in the cafeteria…surreal, fabulous, beautiful, untouchable. I love Victoria. I love Charlie (Billy Burke did an amazing job). I love Jacob and his clan, all strong and noble and proud, from the moment they walk on screen. I love the wardrobe, I love the trees, I love the rain.
Justin didn’t want to see the film with me tonight, because (as he has not read the books, of course) he was afraid he might laugh at something cheesy or make a snide comment, and that I’d then get upset. And you know, I’m really glad that he didn’t go. I sat next to my friend Janeka, who giggled with me in all the right parts, who sighed at the passionate kiss, who swooned when Carlisle first walked in…it was perfect.
Afterward the director, Catherine Hardwicke was funny and cool and gracious. I had no idea that she is a UT alum, that she’s from McAllen, that she clawed her way to through the ranks in Hollywood to get to where she is.
I’m ready to see it again. And again. And again. How soon until it’s on DVD?
🙂
Happy Thursday, everyone. Have a great vampire weekend.
