Monday blah

Tonight I tried this recipe… it was just okay. Actually, Justin really liked it, but I wasn’t too impressed. It wasn’t the prettiest dish, but it was dinner. Is there anything more sad than a disappointing recipe? I hate putting so much time, effort, and money into something that’s just so-so. Ah well, at least the asparagus was pretty cheap. (Yay, spring!)

I watched 500 Days of Summer last night. Another meh. I thought it could have been great, but I’m a sucker for happy endings, and semi-happy endings just don’t do it for me. Give me happily ever after!

Also, I seriously need to get an evening hobby. I ran out of library books, I finished all my Kindle books, and I’ve scanned in all my film photos. So in the evenings, I kind of wander around the apartment, looking for something to do. I started knitting today, but lost interest in that when I realized it’s not really scarf weather. Maybe embroidery? Or maybe I should just become addicted to a television show, and immerse myself in Netflix every night. Any suggestions?

Wow, this was a really boring post. I’ll liven it up with this:

The boys played bocce ball this weekend. Bryan and Conner (on the right) won… Justin and Coach (Bryan’s dad) were a little grumpy about it. It got pretty competitive. 🙂

Have a great week!

  1. I hate it when meals don’t come out as good as you expect them to be. It just turns the night into kind of blah. A good meal really fuels the conversation and makes the night seem wonderful and fun.

My suggestion–sewing! I bought a sewing machine a while back but I really haven’t used it as much as I thought I’d would. I bought some patterns for some dresses, but it was so much harder than I expected. But I made a bunch of cute placemats one day and that was really easy.

Or you could DVR “Sandra Lee’s Semi-Homemade Meals”. We DVR it every day and then we yell at the TV when we watch it about how stupid she is. It will make you feel wonderful about yourself! 🙂

  2. Oh, I forgot about sewing! I have a sewing machine too, and I used to make lots of fun things with it. Maybe I should try quilting…

And too funny about Sandra Lee! We heard Anthony Bourdain speak at the Paramount last week, and he said that this clip will make your eyeballs pop out of their sockets, and I heartily agree: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we2iWTJqo98

    🙂

  3. i’m totally with you regarding 500 days. i was bummed that they didn’t end up together! love you blog name, by the way! 🙂

    1. Thank you! And I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who thought that about the film… 🙂

  4. Yes, her Kwanzaa cake is ridiculous! Have you seen her baked potato ice cream? Seriously, why would you ever want to eat this?

I could go on forever. She’s so bad, but it makes great entertainment for those of us who actually like to cook/eat.

I’m jealous you guys went to see Bourdain! We wanted to go but we thought the tickets were too expensive. Was it worth it?

  5. Ohmyga… that “baked potato” is gruesome! We actually got free tickets to see Bourdain because of connections Justin has through work. It was fun… nothing really new, same Food Network/travel/food jokes and ideas, but it was cool to see him in person. He’s very gracious! He’s opinionated but not rude, if you know what I mean.
