I’m testing out larger photos. I like ’em. This one was taken on film with my Yashica – I love the scratches.

I’m ready for a blog re-design. I’m going to try to lasso my lovely husband into doing it for me. 🙂

If you go to Wheatsville Co-op any time soon, buy a vegan oatmeal cream pie and a tub of their nut paté. You won’t be sorry.

Last Friday I stopped at the drug store to pick up a prescription and also bought a ginormous Pixy Stix. The cashier said, “Wow, you’re really making a statement with that. You’re saying, IT’S FRIDAY AND I WANT MY PIXY STIX!” I have no idea why that was so hilariously funny, but it was, and every time I take a hit (because seriously, it’s a hit of pure sugar, and one ginormous stick will last for days and days), I giggle.

I have found such lovely reading material lately. My favorites:

  • Frankie Magazine – I want to get a subscription, but it’s so expensive because it comes from Australia. Still, I should do it.
  • Remedy Quarterly – I adore this little magazine. I read it cover to cover and anxiously await the next issue.
  • Lucky Peach – It took me a while to read this magazine, because I savored every bit. Again, I should get a subscription.
  • The Book of Lost Things – I am halfway through this and find myself putting off reading it because it’s so freakin good, and so fun, and so scary, and so awesome, that I don’t want it to end.

I have a hair appointment tomorrow, and of course I’m thinking of growing out my hair somehow. I like the one-side-longer-than-the-other thing, but there’s something about fall and winter that makes me want to longer hair. We’ll see what Joey says.

Hope you’re all having a lovely week!

  1. I’ve never heard of Frankie or Remedy Quarterly, but guess what this post just made me do this morning?!?!?! Purchase the current Frankie issue to see if I like it, order a 2012 Frankie journal as a Christmas gift, and order all eight issues of Remedy Quarterly since I can just *tell* I will love them. Oh, and get a sample of “The Book of Lost Things” sent to my Kindle.

WHY DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO DO SUCH COOL THINGS THAT THEN FORCE ME TO DO COOL THINGS TOO (and spend a lot of money)?!?!? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

Also–have fun with the haircut! I went back to Vain a few weeks ago and used one of the new stylists (I’m a terrible person, I can’t remember her name) and she gave me the best cut I’ve ever had. Vain is ANOTHER one of the things I stole from you!

    1. Mwuuaahahahaha…. 🙂

I really do love Frankie – it’s like all my favorite blogs, plus wonderful little essays and bright ideas, all in one. As for Remedy, I have all of them, too, and they’re wonderful! They make me want to write and cook. And for The Book of Lost Things, the first couple of chapters are good, but it really gets good at about Chapter 7… it’s like a fairy tale for adults, with horrible tales and gruesome endings, and I can’t read it at night because it’s too exciting and scary. 🙂

I’m so glad you like Vain! I’m looking forward to my hour of fun with Joey.

  2. Ive never heard of Remedy Quarterly, is it an online only magazine? I like to touch and feel pages in my hands. Man oh man, I need a haircut badly! I lost my stylist after 8 years and I miss her, I can’t bring myself to look for a new one. But my hair is a mess and I want bangs.

    1. No, it’s only in print! They’re tiny little things, with essays about food and memories and family recipes. You should come on up to Austin, get your hair cut at Vain, and have lunch with me! 🙂

  3. Insomnia on Saturday is no fun! Remedy Quarterly sounds like something right up my alley, I am going to go back to start with the first issue. Your invite is too sweet:) We need to plan a meet up soon!
