What I ate on Halloween, and today

Still feeling sick. Boo for colds.

Friday, October 31

8:30 a.m. – “Friday Morning Halloween Potluck Breakfast Crazy Fun Time” at work. Potato-cheese taco, a bite of Round Rock donut (meh), half a biscuit with grape jam, grapes.

1:00 p.m. – Butternut squash bisque and 2 multigrain rolls that my co-worker brought me from Central Market. Yes, she really is that nice.

3:30 p.m. – Piece of Dove chocolate from a co-worker’s desk. I’m beginning to see a ritual here.

6:00 p.m. – Cissi’s market with Justin. Half of a grilled cheese sandwich with dill-walnut spread and tomatoes, half of a “Batting club” with turkey, bacon, avocado and tomato, a few spoonfuls of cream of mushroom soup (way too rich and creamy), a few sips of Sweet Leaf lemon-lime unsweetened tea, and half of a chocolate-cherry souffle.

10:00 p.m. – A sip of a vodka tonic that I then gave to my friend at a Halloween party, because I just didn’t feel like drinking any.

1:30 a.m. – The other half of the chocolate-cherry souffle. 🙂

Throughout the day: iced water.

So if you wonder how or why we eat out so much, a little explanation…Justin is the Senior Art Director for a local magazine, and part of his pay comes in trade – gift certificates to local restaurants, mostly. So when we’re low on cash, we head to one of those restaurants to eat for free. It’s a pretty nice deal, and we’ve found some great restaurants from it (Blue Dahlia, Cissi’s), but it would be nice sometimes to have that cash to spend elsewhere. 🙂

Saturday, November 1

For today, I’m feeling even worse. Mostly a sore throat and I’m super-achy. So food is pretty low on my priority list, unfortunately.

10:00 a.m. – Brunch with Justin at Blue Dahlia. Belgian waffles with strawberries and blueberries (these things are soooo crispy and yummy), two soft-boiled eggs with whole wheat bread, half of a mocha latte made with soymilk.

4:00 p.m. – Housewarming party at our friends’ new casa (which is super-awesome, by the way…jealous of their beautiful kitchen with a gas stove). A couple of pita chips with some spinach dip, and a plethora of chocolate: chocolate brownie, brownie bite, and chocolate cookie.

Uh oh. That’s all I’ve eaten today! I hate how your appetite disappears when you’re sick, even though surely it’s when your body needs nutrition the most. I’ll probably try to eat a chicken-salad sandwich from Central Market that we bought earlier today and tossed in the fridge. Or maybe oatmeal. Or Cream-of-Wheat.

Hopefully I’m feeling well enough tomorrow morning to go grocery shopping. And hopefully I can stay awake long enough tonight to make a grocery list. And hopefully this cold/flu just moseys on out in the middle of the night. Plus I have an extra hour to sleep it off thanks to the time change. 🙂

Happy Saturday, everybody!
