Happy My Anniversary!

Yesterday was our 9th anniversary. I keep thinking of that song by Shania Twain…

They said, I’ll bet
They’ll never make it
But just look at us holding on
Still together, still going strong…

And they did say that. Justin and I met in high school, and we’ve been together ever since. (Take that, nay-sayers!) We’ve been together for 13 years, almost half of our lives!

He sent me flowers.

He knows that I adore the fall, and I’ve been pining for maple leaves and pumpkins and such.

He says that he’s “fallen” for me again…

To celebrate, we ate dinner at Zoot last night, the Farmer’s Menu with wine pairings.

Our menu:

Roasted spaghetti squash with cacio cheese, pecans and sage

Heirloom tomatoes with frisee, fennel marmalade and almond butter

Basil spaetzle with fresh tomato, saffron cream and roasted eggplant

Seared zucchini “scallops” with black beans, quinoa and pickled radicchio

Flourless chocolate cake and vanilla panna cotta

Holy moly, it was all so delicious. Unbelievably delicious and perfect. And each glass of wine was excellent, and perfectly paired with each dish.

And then I look across the table, and there he is, beautiful and sweet and perfect.

(Sigh.)

  1. Congratulations on the anniversary, but more importantly, I’m so glad you’re back! I came here long ago via Sarah Dyer’s blog and I’ve always loved your recipes and tales about life in Austin.

FYI, I recently posted an extremely simple and good Australian recipe for oatmeal cookies (no raisins!) on my blog:

  3. Congratulations on the happy anniversary of one of my most favoritest couples in the whole world!!! As someone else who takes pride in defying naysayers, I salute you!

(And I’m really happy to see the blog back in full effect!)

On behalf of the Power-Freeman family, much love,
