Soup and frustration

I don’t like to rant, but I’d like to get feedback on this, so here it is. I do NOT heart Blogger. Today I attempted my first post on the Wardrobe Refashion blog, which is set up on Blogger. An hour later, I still couldn’t get my photo to upload, and couldn’t even get in to edit my original post. I often have problems loading blogger websites…they either take forever to open or just fail to open entirely. Today I must have hit “publish” ten times with “failed to open page” as a result. Is it me? Is it my Mac? Is it simply a busy time for Blogger? Oh, frustration.

At least I have leftovers of this soup to cheer me up. My friend Leti gave me this recipe a long time ago, and it has since become a weeknight favorite. It’s quick and easy, but still full of flavor. I usually use a flavored diced tomato (Del Monte?) with garlic and onion, but this time I tried Ro-tel tomatoes with green chiles. My verdict? Stick with the Del Monte.

Southwestern Black Bean Soup

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 can Mexican-seasoned diced tomatoes with garlic and onion
2 cups (10 ounces) frozen corn
2 cans black beans, rinsed and drained
2/3 cup packed fresh cilantro, chopped
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can vegetable broth, plus 1/2 can water

Cook bell pepper in olive oil over medium heat. Stir in chili powder and cook 30 seconds. Stir in remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer 15 minutes or until heated through.

Makes 4 servings.

  1. Blogger was shut down to deal with a ‘maintenance problem’ and then a ‘database’ issue – and even after all that, it is still acting up today…

  2. Yes…Blogger is an extremely buggy program. I have a PC and have problems with uploading pictures, opening pages, etc. So it is not just you. Blogger seems to be having a particularly wicked week this time around. But your soup looks lovely, if that’s any consolation.

  3. I agree with Nosheteria. Blogger is a buggy program. It is set up for a user to easily create a blog without having to worry about installing a program yourself. So it is service based. And because of that you are at the mercy of their ‘services’. Blogger has allot of bloated items in their code from what I know. But its kinda like a MySpace (which I WAAAAY NOT HEART!), just sign up and BOOM–instant myspace page. Same goes with blogger. Sign up with blogger and BOOM–instant blog. bBlog appears to be a great piece of blogging software. I use WordPress myself. I feel your pain, Crys!

  4. Yes….I have had many problems myself with Blogger and I thought that it was maybe my Mac too….but upon further research, I found out that the program needs so many patches to work properly. I used to have a website there but quickly realized the annoyance and stopped using it. Anywho….your soup looks yummy! 🙂

  5. i hate blogger & am thinking of relocating to wordpress or one of the other blogging sites. sigh. i haven’t been able to post or leave comments in days. plus, when i use firefox, most blogger sites just time-out — but somehow i don’t have that problem with safari.

but back to your soup = yum!

  6. Ah, I feel much better now! Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Now I don’t feel like a dunce. 🙂

  7. The soup looks yummy. Blogger not so yummy. I was about ready to kick something yesterday when I had made the same change to my template a half dozen times and every time I went to save it, the stupid site went down. Half the time when I’m loading pictures, they don’t appear in the post—I have to hunt them down and manually insert the code. But I’m too cheap and lazy to change to anything else.

  8. Blogger is a pain, that is why I uploat all of my pictures to flicker, then you can click in blooger, at photo from a url which is much much faster. I donno it that helps but, that is just what I do. Your soup looks yummy too!

  9. Soup looks great, as well as the lettuce wrap below!
