Some days I wake up and just getting out of bed is a difficult task. Some days I wake up and take on the world (of food). Today was one of those days. I got up before Justin, fed the kitties, washed the dishes, and made coffee. I worked on the book, sent emails, did research. I prepped our produce for the week – baked spaghetti squash, baked sweet potatoes, roasted carrots and garlic, and sauteed kale. I made a brunch of toasted baguette smeared with herbed chevre, topped with sauteed kale stems and a fried egg. Scrumptious. I had a snack of Ryvita crackers smeared with more chevre and topped with thinly sliced cucumbers. Unfortunately, I decided that Ryvita crackers taste and feel…

Breakfast: iced coffee, in my new reusable cup. I quite like it. Lunch: plain old ramen. Dessert: two chocolate cookies. Dinner: pizza from Spartan. On the left is the Hades: tomato sauce, Italian sausage, green olives, herbed ricotta and pepper flakes. On the right is the Agamemnon: cilantro pesto, chicken tossed with Salt Lick barbecue sauce, red onion and jalapeños. The Agamemnon will rock your world. I haven’t been feeling well, so we’ve had a lot of comfort food. I’m thinking a banana split for dinner might just be the answer. Or an apple-ginger-cucumber-plum juice. Or a nap.

I didn’t manage to photograph much, AND I forgot to grab a menu, but there were lots of really tasty cocktails and nibbles. These were two white whiskey drinks – I love the spherical ice. All of the food was based on the roast pig. Blood sausage, pork tenderloin, chicharrones dipped in chocolate, anything and…

Breakfast: toast with butter and jam, iced coffee. Justin had yogurt and fruit, bagel and cream cheese, and womens’ World Cup. (Go USA!) Snack: I was still hungry, so I had a bit of red chile and the rest of Justin’s bagel. And then it was time for Supper Club! Justin and I were hosting at our friends’ home (ours is too small to host), so we brought the main, drink and some dessert. This is my friend A.’s recipe for sangria. We got all crafty and froze a vase full of orange slices and ice to keep it cool, then fished out the marinated fruit and skewered it so it could be added to each glass. We thought it turned out to be…
