Monday things

I’ve been trying to take more walks lately. I’m thinking audiobooks will help, but I’m not sure if I can focus on them enough to actually get anything out of the book. I think I’ll start with someone entertaining, with an engaging voice, like Sarah Vowell.

I finally watched Breaking Dawn today. I’m such a sucker for romance – the wedding was beautiful, and I feel like we finally get to see Edward and Bella’s love for each other in a positive way, instead of just turmoil and angsty faces. I don’t think the earlier films captured that enough. Also, Robert Pattinson speaking Portuguese? Dreamy. I’m a nerd, but you knew this already.

I made a kale, potato and sausage soup out of things we had hanging around the kitchen. I really feel like Tamar Adler’s book has empowered me in my own kitchen. Between her and Nigel Slater, I am constantly inspired.

One of the best things about having a gas stove is that you can toast marshmallows any time you want. And then you can make a smore with Nutella and graham crackers.

We watched The Fall this weekend. It was so amazingly good – I cried so freakin’ hard, and it was just beautifully done. I highly recommend it.

Today’s soundtrack: Lo-Fi. Gotta love Sophie Koh.

Hope you all have a great week!

  1. Your soup looks delicious! And I’ve never thought to make a s’more with Nutella…how smart!

    1. It’s yummy! You don’t have to worry about the chocolate being melty enough. 🙂

  2. I have absolutely made the s’more on my gas stove with nutella!! Got the idea for the nutella from Simplicity Wine Bar and just toasted the marshmallow on the stove. Total heaven.

  3. What is that first photo of?

    1. It’s just a rock wall along the sidewalk that I liked. 🙂

  4. How about walking with language podcasts? Like French? Or… maybe there are some good weekly podcasts you have that you could catch up on?

    1. Yes, maybe This American Life, or… something… And I love the idea of doing French language podcasts, except that I might look like a doofus randomly spouting off French words. 🙂

  5. Glad to hear you enjoyed the film!

Also, although I’m not a big fan of marshmallows, I feel like I must try that thing you had with Nutella.

    1. It was fantastic! I just received The Cell, so I’ll be watching that soon, too.

Have you never had smores? They’re usually made with chocolate, but Nutella is divine. 🙂
