Wednesday

Breakfast: cinnamon roll and vanilla bean tea. One of my coworkers picked up cinnamon rolls, then warmed them up in our work oven for everyone, just because. Isn’t that nice?

Lunch: caldo and crispy taco at Joe’s. Again. My friend A. had never been there, so of course I had to introduce her to my favorite caldo in town.

Dinner at Foreign & Domestic with Rachel: these are parmesan gougeres. At first I was sad that the popovers aren’t on the menu anymore, but these are crazygood. (At this point I would like to say that we only ordered five dishes and two desserts between the three of us, but Ned is such a gracious chef, and works with Justin a lot, and so just kept on sending out stuff. We did not complain.) 🙂

Chicory and celery with pickled beets, boquerones (white anchovies), oranges and mint.

Smoked rainbow trout with confit potatoes, bitter greens, and mustard.

Venison heart crudo with egg yolk, pickled mushrooms, white chocolate, and crispy pig ear.

Pork liver terrine, with citrus jam, dates, relish and tarragon mustard.

Lacquered Texas quail, potato puree, caramelized celery and hazelnut pesto.

Parsnip ravioli in fennel broth, with garlic confit, Brussels sprouts, braised grapes and crispy pig ears.

Monterey Bay whole herring, carrot butter, pickled olives, bacon foam.

Left: rice pudding with bananas, caramel and blood orange sorbet.

Right: chocolate mousse with milk chocolate ganache, hazelnuts, and hazelnut ice cream.

Fried apple pie with toffee ice cream.

After dinner, we stopped at the Tigress Pub for drinks. Justin had Pam’s Irish coffee. In the foreground is a barrel-aged vieux carre.

My favorite things: white anchovies in my salad, parmesan gougeres, potato puree, caramelized celery, whole herring, fennel broth, parsnip ravioli, chocolate mousse, toffee ice cream, spending time with Rachel and Justin, and chatting with Pam.

Quite a gluttonous day. And we got home so late that I couldn’t stay awake to upload all these photos. Still, better late than never, right? 🙂
