2011 Goals

Posted on December 31, 2010

I’m not so good at resolutions. Or… I’m great at making them, but not so great at keeping them. Still, I love how hopeful it feels to make these year-long goals. I usually forget to make them reasonable (I will read 52 books! I will exercise every day! I will never eat at a restaurant again!), so this year I’m trying to make them more reachable. And so, my goals for 2011 are: Lose 10 pounds Pay off at least half our debt Travel every two months or so (even if just for a weekend) Go to the movies at least once a month Cook at home most of the time (and cut down restaurant eating to once or twice a week) Exercise three…

2010 Review

Posted on December 30, 2010

I’ve decided to look back on the past year and recap all that’s happened. It’s amazing how much we’ve done and been through! January We got a new (used) car, I processed my first Holga photos, I got my new Canon Rebel T1i, and we signed up for Farmhouse Delivery. February We ate out a LOT. March We went to Jamaica, I got a Polaroid camera, I discovered my love for tempura udon, we attended the SXSW film festival, I turned 32, and I made a list of 33 things to do before my next birthday (which will be fun to revisit in March).…

This week I’m listening to: Highlife – Tuareg Dancehall Cee Lo Green – F**k You Daft Punk – Derezzed And here’s December’s full playlist. Enjoy!

Christmas at my sister’s house

Posted on December 28, 2010

We spent Christmas weekend in west Texas with my family. My sister hosted us, and it was lovely – spreads of finger foods (including shrimp cocktail especially for my dad and me), beautiful sugar cookies, decorations everywhere, a tour of the best Christmas lights in the town, asado (red chile pork) cooked outside on the disco (a sort of outdoor wok that my dad welded together), and two games of Mexican train dominoes. We shot some video of how my dad makes asado – I’ll get it edited together and posted this week (I hope). I’ve been taking more photos with my Yashica film camera, and I’m really loving the process and results. I’m hoping to take a lot more photos with it from…

Projects!

Posted on December 28, 2010

*I got a Fuji Instax! And fake mustaches! Yay! Okay, so we all know how much I like starting projects. I always think about doing a project a month, or maybe a year-long project, or… well, I like the idea of projects. You may remember my recent revelation that although I like starting projects, I don’t necessarily finish many of them, and that’s okay. My definition of “finishing” is not the same as other people’s. I tend to get bored pretty quickly. But for some reason (maybe because the New Year is fast approaching), I’m considering new projects. I just saw this little book over on swissmiss, and it’s making me think about projects I’d like to start. Here are a few ideas: Be…
