It just doesn’t feel like we’ve really returned to ATX…
We made this little salad last night, and though it was really tasty then, it was even better today at lunch. The asparagus and the arugula add such great texture and flavor to the salad. Justin and I agreed that our cherry tomatoes were either a bit too big or a bit too flavorful for the dish…next time we might add fewer and chop them smaller.
We celebrated Peaster on Sunday with our regular crew, and I brought pumpkin empanadas and fresh strawberries. Shara made babka, Polish egg bread, and Boca “Bratwurst” simmered in Vernor’s ginger ale. We could not believe how juicy and flavorful the soysages were…a bite of soysage with a bite of egg bread…was heaven. Lindsay brought latkes with homemade applesauce, perfectly crisp and wonderful.
I also baked a couple of cheesecakes on Sunday for a co-worker’s birthday on Monday. They looked very pretty, but I didn’t get to try any, so I can’t vouch for the flavor (though I’m not a big cheesecake, so I didn’t mind much). Everyone at work who tried some said it was great, though. I took along a bowlful of thawed frozen strawberries sprinkled with a little sugar to go on top.
We watched a couple of DVDs this weekend…Marie Antoinette and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. I thought they were both fabulous…Marie Antoinette for the romantic pink-ness of it all, and Guide to Recognizing Your Saints for the brash, tough-neighborhood reality of it. I’d highly recommend them both.
Other than that, there’s been a little yoga, a little crafting (more paper wallets for Leti and me), and even some pottery. The girls and I got together last week to paint some pottery at Cafe Monet, and we had a great time. I still haven’t seen my piece yet, but I’m hoping it turned out well (I just did a solid color to avoid that 5-year-old-with-finger-paints look that I knew I’d end up with).
Okay, time for a bit of blog browsing…I’m hopelessly addicted to The Sartorialist, and I could spend hours going through his archives admiring the fabulous fashion. Have a great week, everyone!
